Background
Mary-Hannah Jones was the daughter of Michael Jones (Born on March 13 1984) and Amanda Davis ( Born on September 22th 1987) Mary was born on February 17th 2007 in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother was a teacher while her father was an engineer.
It all happened on what was suppose to be a summer day where Mary was getting ready to leave with her parents to go camping into the wood. What was suppose to be a family trip turn into horror. It all started with screaming, gunshoot noise. While they were looking through the window of their home, they saw people running away and screaming, trying to escape, then it was followed by sentient species of cybernetically enhanced beings operating under a hive mind intelligence, also known as CHITAURI. Then, there was some kind of chariot that ressembled of jet ski mostly called CHITAURI CRUISERS. On the chariot, there were strange species of cybernetically on it. They were controlled by the CHITAURI COMMANDER CENTER.
The battle of New York was one of the most terrifying thing since no one was prepared by it. it was directed by the god of mischief himself; loki and thanos. The Avengers who are Steve Rogers known as Captain America, Natasha Romanoff known as the black widow, Clint Barton also know as the hawkeye, Bruce Banner who's the green hulk, Thor Odinson who is a the god of thunder and brother of Loki and Tony Stark mostly known as Iron Man.
Michael and Amanda told Mary to stay hidden while they make sure to find a way to leave and hide. Everyone on the street were in panic but not as much as Mary who couldn't stop crying. She wasn't understanding what was going on and was afraid. Amanda decided to stay with Mary to comfort her and protect her while Michael left outsdie but came inside as soon as possible when he saw those hideous reptilian warrior race. Her father order Mary and Amanda to hide in one of their room but as they were about to leave, a chitauri walks in and shoot her father right in front of her and her mother, with a chitauri gun before another walks in. Amanda yells at her daughter to run as fast as she can when she told her. Mary didn't want to leave. She didn't want to leave her mother. She was afraid.
She couldn't stop crying but Amanda kneel down to have a better look at her daughter before she said : « I love you, Mary. Never forget that. Me and dad will always be with you. » And then Amanda stood up and walks towards the CHITAURI.
« MARY! RUN! » Amanda yells before she got fired by a CHITAURI STAFF and collapsed on the floor.
Mary was about to run after her mother and wanted to hit the CHITAURI but her mother , with her last breath told her : « Baby, run. Run, my little angel. »
Then, she gave her last breath and died in front of her broken child. Mary looks at both of her parents before she start to run as fast as seh could. She end up outside of her home before she start to sob. Her whole body was shaken and she couldn't stop screaming for her parents but they weren't alive anymore.
She just stood there on the street, watching the city of New York being taken before Steve Rogers heard her crying and screaming her parent's name. This is why that he notice that it was drawing the CHITAURI towards Mary. Captain America asks Clint and Natasha to help him because there was a young girl who was in danger. They both came to his rescue while he run and attack what was on his way before he approach the little girl who was completely in tears and inconsolable.
« Are you lost, child ? » He asks, as he kneel down, and turn for a second to kill another CHITAURI that was coming close.
« I want my mom and dad. » Mary sobbed.
« Where are they ? » He asks in a gentle tone. Which Mary replied by pointing at her home.
« They're --- They died. They killed them. » Steve's heart was shattering at the scene. At the view of a five year old who could witnessed such things and loss parents at such a young age.
Seeing that the battle was getting more dangerous. Steve looks back at Natasha who knew alraedy what to do before he turns to look at the small child.
« What do you say that you go with my good friend Natasha ? She will keep you safe until it is all over. This isn't a safe place for you. » Mary couldn't stop crying as she looks back at the black widow with tears that couldn't stop streaming down her cheeks.
« Why did they do that to my mommy and daddy ? » Mary asks as Steve looks at her with his heart shattering in piece before he wiped the tears from under her eyes.
« I don't know, kid. I don't. But we will stop them, okay ? »
A silence followed before Natasha walks closer to her, kneeling down beside Steve and looks at her.
« What do you say that we go for a walk. Far away from here. »
She touched her earring device that help communicating between the Avengers before she contact Nick
Fury « We need a Jet plane. »
« Coming right up. » Nick replied.
Natasha then hold out her arm towards the little girl with blonde hair before Mary just fall into her arm. She was exhausted. She was mortfified, scared. The death of her parents would forever scarred her for life. Natasha took Mary into her arm before she looks at Steve, then she left.
Steve continue to fight, looking at the other Avengers team who were giving everything to stop the brother of Thor to attack New York. They eventually were able to make a stop when Erik Selvig used the Loki's scepter to close the portal. Tony Stark was on his way back after he threw the missile that was suppose to destroy Midgard to the mothership that instantly killed all the CHITAURI back on earth.
While the other Avengers were fighting, Natasha was with Mary, in a more secure place from any attack before the jet plane arrived. She ask Nick Fury to take her to the facility because she had to go. Mary didn't know what was going on because she fell asleep on Natasha's arm. Nick Fury took her and brought her back to the Avengers's facility.
Steve and the rest of the avengers stopped Loki's plan before Thor left with his brother to Asgard where he would faced the crime of his action.
The team decided to stop one the way at the end to eat Shawarma.
Everyone was quiet but Steve couldn't stop thinking about everyone who got injured, who died. Then, he thought again at this little girl that lost her parents at such a young age. It was breaking his heart. On their way back to the Avengers facility, Steve and Natasha told the rest of the team that they took a little girl who lost her parents during the attack and was in danger. Tony didn't know that it was the daughter of one of his employee during the year of 2010.
Mary slept during a few hours from the exhaustion to have cried for a long time. She suddenly wake up, screaming and crying. She couldn't stop saying that she wants to see her parents. That her parents are gone. She couldn't stop asking what happened to them. If they are coming back ? Nick didn't know what to answer because he didn't know the story which make Mary feeling more scared and anxious. She started to run before she bumped into Steve who just got back , with the rest, from the battle of New York.
Mary remembered him and Natasha.
She wrap her arm around Steve's waist before she start to cry.
« Why did you leave me -- I am scared. Where's my mommy and daddy ? I wanna see them.»
« Sweetie, you can't -- They're -- » Natasha cut herself from continuing to speak. It was breaking her heart. And Steve's heart. They didn't know what to do or what to say.
No one was ready to have a child at the facility. No one even knew that Clint had children except Natasha which gave her an idea. She let Mary with Steve and the rest while she went to see Clint, telling her about everything that has happened to the little girl. She knew that Clint could , at least for a moment, take care of Mary while they try to find any family relative. Everything was quiet since they defeated the chitauri and that Loki was taken back to Asgard with his brother Thor. Clint agreed for Natasha to tell Steve but no one was suppose to know he has a wife and a family because he want it to be a secret. It was part of his agreement to protect his family from any danger. Steve and Natasha agreed to let Mary go while they sort everything to find some relative of hers.
Meanwhile. it was best for Mary to be away. Natasha thought that seeing others kids could help her to feel better while they search for any member of her family. Mary didn't want to go to a place she didn't know without Natasha and Steve. By far, they were the only two people she was feeling safe.
Tony Stark remember her from photo that her father MIchael showed to Mr Stark but Mary didn't know who he was.
Mary stayed with Clint and his family for a couple of weeks. During her stay, Mary grew closer to Lila who was the same age than her It helped her to forget everything. Even if she was only five, she understood what was going. Well mostly..
On Brooklyn, Steve spoke to the social service to know if Mary had any family. He knew the little girl's full name because Tony knew her father Michael Jones Steve spoke to do anything to help in some way to have the little girl's parents ; a special funeral and a place to buried them so they could be protected. The police, the social services, the funeral home. They tried their best to find any relative but most of them were either not interesting or they died during the battle of New York, leaving Mary alone and with no option from the social services that to take her to a foster family.
Steve, Natasha. Every person in the team knew what it feels like to lose someone. Just the thought of this little girl being all alone and not benig able to be protected, he was feeling heartbreaking. He didn't quite understand but he had the feeling that she needs to be protected, that she needs it a chance. Steve ask if he could keep her for awhile, to see if it could work with her. It wasn't something who was very much welcome since he was captain america and not even nick fury and the rest didn't it was such a good idea because the life of a superhero was a dangerous life but the lady of the social services accepted to give it a try.
Mary was eventually adopted on May 12th 2013 by Steve Rogers and later by Natasha Romanoff. She was only 6 when she got adopted.
The next four year of Mary-Hannah were difficult. It was a whole new adjustment. The constant fear, the nightmare, the fear to lose Steve and Natasha made it hard for her to be far away from them. She grew closer to them and the fear of losing them was scaring her. She was homeschool for awhile, due to the fear of losing both of them while she was also seeing a therapist to help her deal with the trauma to have seen her biological parent's death. She would often talk about them and had photo to remember them because for Steve and Natasha, it was important for them to remember her real family. But sadly, as the year goes by, she was still young and the memories of her biological parents started to fade away from her mind.
And just like that, over the years, she started to be more open, more joyfyl and her natural self, just like when she was before the tragic death of her parents. She already had friends but the new friends she made were kind to her.
In 2018, Mary was 11 year old.. It was the hardest time of her life, not because she was getting bullied after her father but because the most traumatizing things happened. When Thanos and his people arrived to earth, Mary was at school. She could hear people talking about her parents, talking about New York being attacked.
Panicking, Mary called out her mother and her father to make sure that everything was going well. Her mother told her to stay hidden inside the school, that someone would come get her but they never had the chance to come because something strange start to happen, one by one, people around her in school was disappearing, turning to dust. Panic started to rose inside of her as she run outside of her classroom to find her best friend; her only friend. Relieve that her friend was alive she hug her, until she turns into dust right in her arm.
Mary was in shock and left the school, looking at every person disappearing around her. She called out her parents but they didn't answer her. She stayed at school all alone until they came. They were both alive.
The next five years was harder for Mary. She was unstable emotionally. She was always angry. She wasn't the sweet child she used to be. She was having nightmare, seizure, panic attack. It took her time but her parents helped her to get through it. Steve and Natasha told her that they will fix everything. Everything will be alright.
2023, the years that was suppose to fix everything. It did but not without losing the person she loves the most. Her mother. When she learn that her mother sacrifice her life to save everyone and left her a letter just in case something goes wrong, it destroy her inside.
Today, she is now sixteen, and goes at the Midtown High School. She sees a psychologist and has the support and love of her father and friends to help her like she tries to help her father by honor her mother's legacy by wanting to become like her, saving people, becoming an Avengers.
